5 Year Metro Anniversary Reflection

Image
Today (12/20) is my 5 year anniversary serving as the Director of Volunteers & Events, at Metropolitan Ministries ! I distinctly remember this day 5 years ago, walking around the holiday tent wide-eyed, nervous and excited about what possibilities were ahead of me. I was looking for a place to serve people in need and make a real difference in their life, growing my skills & leadership abilities and become more connected in Tampa Bay. And well, Metro has delivered that and more! Everyday we are witness to lives being transformed, women being empowered, children being restored and people finding hope. I have been privileged to serve with celebrities, athletes, CEOs and community leaders. It's been a whirlwind to say the least. For me, the times that continue to be the most fulfilling are found at Metropolitan Ministries in Pasco County. This picture is one of the highlights of my time at Metro that happened this month. Metro was honored at a Pasco County Commissioners ...

I've decided to do a list of 35 things to do before my 35 birthday (10/14/2018). And I wanted to share it because some of you are really good cooks, work for or love local organizations I can attend or volunteer at, or have a book I should read. Part of this journey will be to live in community more so I would love your help and companionship as I map out 35 things to do this year. Some of these things I will do for the first time like paddle boarding or kyaking in the ocean but others are things that I don't do enough like going to shows or running.  Drink a vintage wine.  DONE Make a hollandaise sauce. Stretch goal, make all the mother sauces.  Take a cooking class. Make 1 new/challenging/exotic dish a month. Restart clean eating by doing it for 1 month. DONE Learn to make bread. Grow watermelon. Try a summer CSA.  Make bacon! Make an Italian  Easter bread .  See a show/movie at the Tampa Theatre. Volunteer 35 hours to organizations i...

Thank You To Our Friends Without Kids

The cold war with our friends who have no kids started well before Toby even arrived. It was surprising to me that stopped talking to us at all when we announced the pregnancy and even more surprising how many friends, those without kids, who simply stopped inviting us to nights out, pushed off invitations to come over or, again, dropped our friendship completely. I have to say that if I did this to any of my friends who had children before us, I'm sorry. This has to be the MOST heart-breaking parts of becoming parents. Losing friends, close friends, simply because they can't understand where we are at now. That being said, we are incredibly thankful for our friends, especially those without kids, who have hung in with us as we learn what it's like to become parents and find balance with our newest family member. So here is a little shout out to them! Thank you for giving us so many second chances. You came to our house to visit when we had a newborn that, frankly, we d...

9 Months: Crawling, Weight Gain & Easter Bunnies for Sale!

Image
Little Mitchell Man is now 9 months old! Time is flying by! This month, just like the ones past has been a very busy but fun month. He's now crawling all over the place, he's gained the weight he needed to get back on track and is so much fun to explore with. The picture to the right is him every Sunday after church. Without fail, he's asleep before we even get home. His exploring around the house has opened a whole new world for him. He's getting into everything and finding that he can often get himself into a spot but not back out. This month we did some yard sale shopping and scored some new toys! He's now the best little companion out to lunch and around town. He sits up so well and pretty much entertains himself with his toys. Just like at home, he watches everything and is constantly smiling at everyone. This month he celebrated his Uncle Ben's birthday at The Refinery - his first Brunch.  Playtime includes his new yard sale toys as well as ...
